Save Second Base

Baking Date: June 2012

I have a very close “baseball family” for my oldest son’s Travel/All Star team.  Included in the mix are one mom who is a breast cancer survivor and one mom who is currently battling the disease.

In 2012, the breast cancer survivor reached a very important milestone in her recovery — the 5 year mark in remission with no recurrence of the disease.  To highlight this special occasion, she asked me to make her something sweet and celebratory.

I purchased the alphabet/number cake pan and baked a red velvet cake in the shape of a 5.  The cake was decorated with cream cheese frosting, outlined in cream cheese frosting tinted pink. Candy melts in the shapes of pink ribbons and pink/purple hearts were also added.

My friend made this cake her profile picture on facebook for a period of time

For the other mom, still battling the disease and going through chemotherapy, I dropped this heart-shaped mini-cake by her house the other day.  Hope is very important to her and I wanted her to know that her friends are thinking of her.  The cupcake is red velvet with cream cheese frosting, pink sugar pearls and HOPE spelled out in sparkling pink gel frosting.

Bringing sweet HOPE to those who need it

Keep fighting like a girl!
