Tattoo Heart Cake

Baking Date: November 6, 2012

My friend Ella asked me to make a special cake.  One of Ella’s buddies — whose son plays football with Ella’s son — had gotten married in a small ceremony.  Ella wanted to do something nice for her.

She mentioned that her friend Angie had a tattoo and sent me a picture of it. “Bird” is her new husband’s nickname.

Using the tattoo as the inspiration for the cake, I used a 10″ x 2″ heart-shaped pan from Wilton. I baked a dark chocolate cake from a box mix.  I used vanilla frosting from a can, with half dyed red using Wilton icing dye in No Taste Red.  I added candy melt roses in red and white and some red sugar sprinkles in the white icing section of the top of the cake. The top edge of the cake was decorated using a Wilton Tip #18, alternating the red and white icing. The bottom edge of the cake was decorated using a Wilton Tip #32, in alternating red and white icing.

Here’s the tattoo font I decided to use:

Here’s the cake half-way through the decorating process:

And here’s the final cake with all the decorating done.

Congrats Angie and Bird!
