Thank You Packages for Professional References

Baking Date: February 24, 2013

When I started my new job, I wanted to do something special for my professional references who had spoken on my behalf.  I decided to do some baking, and ship them the goodies, along with a handwritten thank you note, my new business card and a Starbucks gift card.  Coffee and goodies on me!

I made blueberry bread and pumpkin bread from a box mix.  I also made ginger snaps — here is my grandmother’s recipe (it makes a ton!):

  • 1 1/2 cups shortening
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ground cloves
  • 2 teaspoons ginger

Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and molasses. Sift dry ingredients, add to mixture and mix well. Refrigerate until firm. Roll into 1″ balls; roll balls in sugar. Bake at 275 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

I packaged everything and shipped the boxes off to New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Colorado and Nevada.  It’s just my small way of saying thank you to these good people, and is a bit more personal than just a card or e-mail.

So, thank you Will, Liz, Elizabeth and Peggy.  I’m thrilled with my new job — and even more so that I have such great people willing to speak on my behalf!
